Plitvice lakes are well known national park in Croatia. It is located halfway between Zagreb and northern Dalmatia. To Zagreb is 140 km, and to Zadar approximately equal distance. Before express way was made, tourists travelled from Zagreb to Split, walked beside the road that are the Plitvice Lakes. Hiking can get to Plitvice from Kvarner Riviera (Senj is located approximately 90 kilometers and 150 kilometers of Rijeka). The nearest airports are Zagreb, Rijeka and Zadar, at distance of two hours travel by car.
Plitvice Lakes National Park can be visited individually or in group excursions, usually organized by travel agencies. Depending on available time, need to choose the route, and information service offers two half day, two day and one two-day sightseeing. Ticket includes driving on panoramic train and by electroboats.

Almost parallel with the development of national parks in the world, the concept of tourism developed in this national park. Together with the hotel construction and increased tourist traffic, transit road through the Plitvice encouraged construction of private houses, apartments and accommodations.
Tourist Office Plitvice also organizes excursions outside the National Park. In the vicinity is Bosnia, clear river Una, which also has beautiful waterfalls. Specifically, in one of them, there is Martin-Brod town, and Bihac. On the opposite, western side is the mountain Velebit, which is particularly appealing to climbers, with caves Cedrovačkim in Lika, and the canyon Zrmanja on Dalmatinska side.
