Orebić - Town on Pelješac Peninsula

Orebić is a popular tourist town on the southern side of Pelješac peninsula. The town faces famous town of Korčula on the island of Korčula, which is also a popular tourist destination in Croatia. In vicinity of Orebić there are stone tumulus and fortifications that were built long ago by Illyrian tribes. From ancient times come the remains of buildings (villa rustica), inscriptions, sarcophagi, etc. The documentation in Dubrovnik states that Orebić was once known as Trstenica, and it was the center of Dubrovnik Republic captaincy. Today the name of the town comes from the captain's family Orebić, who moved there in the 16th century and built a forecastle.

Two kilometers west of the town is Gothic and Renaissance Franciscan monastery from 1470. On the hill above the monastery, there is Gothic church of Our Lady of Carmen. Next to it are ancient sarcophagi and a sight of nature - huge old cypress trees. There are several little islands in front of Orebić near Korčula. There is daily boat link to Korčula and back. Guests will find Orebić on Pelješac peninsula attractive as a tourist destination in Croatia for its long pebble beaches and wind-surfing.
